Abstract

Adolescence is a period of vulnerability to mental health issues, particularly emotional mental disorders that can be exacerbated by the implementation of a full-day school system. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity and sleep quality and symptoms of emotional mental disorders among students at SMAN 4 in Jambi City. This is a quantitative study with an observational analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a total of 96 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, while data analysis employed the Monte Carlo test and Continuity Correction. Univariate analysis results showed that the majority of respondents engaged in moderate physical activity (56.3%), had poor sleep quality (66.7%), and exhibited symptoms of emotional mental disorders (52.1%). Bivariate analysis results showed no significant association between physical activity and symptoms of emotional mental disorders (p=0.747), but a significant association was found between sleep quality and symptoms of emotional mental disorders (p=0.002). In conclusion, poor sleep quality is closely associated with an increased risk of symptoms of emotional mental disorders in adolescents.
